Scarborough College Prospectus

The College’s new prospectus was completed last month and has been designed to complement the existing suite of literature.

We organised photography at the College late last summer and the children had a great time on the South Bay playing in rock pools and running through the sea which made for some memorable photographs.

Many of these photographs have made it into the new prospectus to give a feel for how the College wants to portray itself to current and prospective parents. ‘A distinctly different experience’ is one of the strap lines used and the College is living up to that reputation giving the children a well rounded education in a great location on the North Yorkshire coast.

Rollercoastival Children's Festival

This year’s Student conference was held at Scarborough Library and introduced writing for young adults to an audience of 60 students from 16-18 years old.

Students worked directly with all the authors (David Belbin, Paula Rawsthorne, Matt Whyman and John Wedgwood Clarke) and participated in writing workshops to explore different approaches and story construction.

The schools involved in the day are Lady Lumley’s School, Scarborough College, Selby College and Whitby Community College.

Children were also introduced to alternative literary genres. The project, Lore Unto Ourselves, used the theme of local Yorkshire legends and folklore and local Cubs, Brownies and Boys Brigade Companies discovered the story of the Gytrash of Goathland. Working with a range of creative professionals, the children interpreted the tale in a variety of creative different ways, giving them a chance to learn more about their local surroundings, history and literary traditions in imaginative and highly original ways.

So what did Fitzpatrick Maloney Creative Partnership do? We photographed the 2011 Scarborough Literature Festival and designed the brochure which documented the children’s festival.

Key ring designs for Scarborough Museums Trust

We have just completed a research and design project for Scarborough Museums Trust, using William James Clarke’s collection of unusual and beguiling charms as the basis for five bold and colourful printed keyrings.

Many of the charms and amulets in the collection were used to ward off evil and bring good luck and were collected by Clarke between 1913 and 1945.

We worked closely with Cultiv8, a group of 14-24 year olds to help create the designs and the key rings have been printed using a silver foil on different coloured board.

The project forms part of Stories of the World, one of the projects central to the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.

Website live

Feeling rather like Gru from Despicable Me (pictured to the right) we are celebrating the fact that the website and blog are live.

We recently completed work on the winter/spring entertainments guide for Scarborough and Whitby. The current design has matured and mellowed over the last year or so and we know that the current format works and feedback has been very positive.
